If that does not show the drive, you need to make sure you can see it in the BIOS during startup and that the USB ports are active. Once you see the drive, you can now Format the drive and begin using it. If it does not, right-click on the Disk Management name on the left-hand side of page and select 'Refresh'. Once in DM, the drive SHOULD show up in the drive list. Once that is done, if the OS does not recognize the drive automatically and ask if you want to Format it, go into Device Manager and go to 'Disk Management' under 'Storage'. You will need to either connect it to a USB port via an external USB-to-SATA adapter or open up your case and connect it via a SATA cable to a spare SATA connector. Do you know how I can configure it as an external drive? Thanks for the answer about configuring it as a boot drive. I have the same problem - I cant install windows 10 on my SSD (samsung 860 evo 250GB). But I'm not sure if I want to use it for an older laptop I have or as an external drive. I already have a stock SSD of 128GB that (I think) is manufactured by SanDisk, in my HP Envy 700-203ed.
